Archangel Press
Translations
Mention Old English to most people and they immediately begin to
think in terms of thee, tho, and King James.
In fact, the language used in the King James translation of the Bible is
modern English. Middle and Old English
are separate languages, heavily influenced by the more guttural Anglo-Saxon
tongues. They use the same alphabet with a few extra letters and, in
some of the later works, can be deciphered by the modern reader with enough
effort. Sadly, most can not be and many
great works, both in content and in historical context, have been lost to all
but a small group of academia. Saddened
by this loss, Archangel Press has accepted the slow and difficult burden of
resurrecting these works, both as straight translations to modern English and
as "retellings" of the themes of these works. Historical credits are included within the
body of the documents presented herein.
